FBC Welcomes new religious education director

The First Baptist Church is pleased to announce their new director of Christian Education, Ms. Alycia Post. First Baptist offers programming for children and adults, and Post will work alongside the church staff and the board of Christian Education to develop efforts in faith formation for all ages.

Born in Revere, MA, Alycia recently relocated to Bennington from Staten Island, NY. She lives with her husband, Robert Post who works at Bennington College, her daughter, Ivy Rose E. Post, and their dog “Charles”. Alycia has experience working with non-profit organizations such as YouthBuild, homeless shelters, and Habitat for Humanity. She is active in the congregation’s music ministry and attends the Bennington Interfaith Council meetings as a lay representative of First Baptist.

Alycia comments, “I am very happy to be here at First Baptist Church in such a loving environment with wonderful people who care about their community.” The Rev. Jerrod Hugenot notes, “Alycia brings enthusiasm and energy to the work of religious education. We welcome her giftedness into our midst.”

First Baptist welcomes former minister, the Rev. Robert Spencer

The First Baptist Church of Bennington, Vermont, is pleased to announce a welcoming reception for the Rev. Robert Franklin Spencer, minister emeritus of the church (1948-1958). Members of the congregation, past and present, as well as interested persons from the community are welcome to attend this gathering to be held on Monday evening, October 5, 2008, at 8 PM, at the Hampton Inn of Bennington, Vermont. First Baptist HOsts Community Forum 9/16/2008

FIRST BAPTIST HOSTS COMMUNITY FORUM


On Tuesday, September 16, 2008, the First Baptist Church announces a community forum, free and open to the public, at 10 AM. The forum speaker will be Marling Lainez, director of the Education Center of San Ignacio de Loyola, of Somotillo, Nicaragua, a border town near Honduras. Lainez will share about the work of the Center, which serves at risk boys and girls from extremely poor families. The Center provides educational and training to improve the lives of these children. Donations and ongoing support commitments for the work of the Education Center are welcome.

The Vermont Peace Resources Center hosts Marling Lainez’s visit to the Bennington area. Other talks will be given at area faith communities, schools, and civic organizations. Roast Beef Dinner 2008 Car Show weekend!

The First Baptist Church of Bennington, VT, sponsors its annual roast beef supper on Saturday evening, September 13, 2008, from 5 PM until all are served.  Held during the annual Hemmings Motor News Car Show weekend, this supper is a beloved fixture of the weekend's events.  Adult meals are $12/person and $6/children, 12 and younger.  The church is located at 601 Main Street in downtown Bennington.

The menu features roast beef, potatoes, squash, coleslaw, rolls, dessert, and hot and cold beverages.
